hello good day to all.my system runs on:

vista home premium x86
norton internet security (latest version - but totally USELESS!!)

my niece downloaded something nasty from a nasty website. norton did its worth of detecting trojan.tidserv but that was it... norton didn't say anything about removing it or what kind of action it did against it???!!!! i totally wasted hard-earned money on this norton S _ _ _!!!!!

i did my best to do all the info given on the net about how to remove this trojan.tidserv but i cannot find it's files on my pc on the first place and norton continually is popping out messages that it detects trojan.tidserve but does nothing to it.

when i used malwarebytes' antimalware it detected a different kind of trojan - trojan.fakealert and it said that it was successfully removed.

after that, everytime i tried to log-in into my pc and everytime my pc tries to start, there is a message popping up saying that windows.exe processes are all bad image. something like:

"explorer.exe - Bad Image
globalroot\systemroot\system32\rotscxvfntoora.dll is either not designed to run on windows
or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system admin.
or the software vendor for support."

it is displaying this kind of error message everytime a windows.exe process try to start. but after clicking ok to the message the process still continue to start. it's been like that for a while until it totally disappeared. but norton still continued to display that it detects trojan.tidserv or sometimes it shows backdoor.tidsery.... but does nothing to it????!!!!

i tried using SDFix but unfortunately it cannot be used for vista system. i also tried kaspersky online scanner but my pc shutsdown halfway through the scan everytime. when i used norton to scan my pc on safemode, i saw that it was scanning a file with a name trojan but norton didn't consider it as a threat...i did not have enough time to take note of the entire name of the file bec. it was just a split second it was displayed as it was scanning but i clearly read the "trojan" on the file name....how come norton didn't classify it as a threat?

when i opened norton logs, there is nothing mentioned about the trojan.tidserv nor the trojan.fakealert but instead what i saw was another trojan named catchme.exe and the log says the trojan changed something on my pc. and it tried to access explorer.exe and users\appdata\local....

and now my pc is behaving erratically. when my nephew tries to play a game on my pc, he can play for a few minutes but the pc suddenly displays that "bluescreen" of death.

pls. i need your help...i am totally at a loss here....i am ready to do anything and whatever it takes to remove all the malware in my pc...by the way, is it true that even if you reformat your pc some malware can still survive? if this is so how do they do that and how to prevent this or what to do about this?

thanks in advance.

this is the DDS log:

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.
