Just found out about this forum from Jay Lee's column in the Houston Chronicle. Looking forward to getting my feet wet.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer.

Please take the time, to browse the New User Orientation forum, to help familiarize yourself with how the board works.

Also, don't forget to check out the Tutorials.
There's a lot of very useful information, in there.

why won't my laptop work?

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around

Also new to the site; also read Jay Lee's column in Houston Chronicle. Have 4 computers; an XP desk top (ancient, 6+ years old), an XP laptop (both mine), a Vista desktop and a Vista laptop (wife's). Both wired and wireless LAN. Lousy keyboard skills.

Go back to the true floppy days (pre-hard disks) when MS-DOS ruled. Just went thru' the pain of a format and re-load of wife's desktop. So far, OK. Still some stuff to reload.

Not a super techie, but not a dodo either. Just want these beasts to do their thing - - - without too much grief. Hope this site will be a real help.

Really want to get into effective, but not overly complex backups; pictures, music, PowerPoint and Word files, etc.. Have Western Digital 650 Gig and 1TB external HD's for that purpose. Would prefer to do with available software rather than buying dedicated software (just more to keep up to date, etc.). Appear to be many ways to skin this cat. Suggestions??

Oh, and Tomball, I'm down 249 a few miles.
