Hey guys I'm here again asking for help....... A while back ago my computer was hijacked and I began posting to your message board for help. It seems that after a few scans and postings of my files I started to regain control of it again. I really appreciate all the help from before but I don't think I took it far enough last time and really could use your help again. Please any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.......... Thanks again and hope to hear from you guys soon.

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone can help me with my computer...... I actually was hijacked a while back and began a process to eliminate the infected files. However after taking several days worth scanning and dirrections I guess I did not take it far enough and still seem to have Spyware and adware hanging around in my system. Please if anyone can help me again with this so that I may get rid of all the infected files. I would really appreciate it! Please let me know what to do.

by the way here is a hijack this log that may help get me started!

Thank you
Zenki

Welcome back ZenkiLuv to Bleeping Computer.

You may want to print or save these instructions locally before starting.

***

We need to disable your Microsoft AntiSpyware Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Reverse the process when you’ve carried out the advise.

***

Please disable SpybotSD’s protection, as it may hinder the removal of the infection. You can enable it after you're clean.

Open Spybot and click on Mode and check Advanced Mode
Check yes to next window.
Click on Tools in bottom left hand corner.
Click on Resident icon.
Uncheck Teatimer box and/or Uncheck Resident.
Click Allow Change box.

***

Please download, install, and update the free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • Run Ewido --- When you run it for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Exit Ewido. DO NOT scan yet.
***

Download CCleaner and install, but do not run it yet.

***

Please download the Nailfix utility. Unzip it to your desktop.
DO NOT run it yet.

***

Download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Place the following lines (complete paths) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox, and click the red button with the white X on it after each

c:\windows\system32\ankinm.exe
c:\windows\system32\uljydyy.exe

For these file, put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot". Copy and paste each file into the file name box, then click the red button with the X after each. It will ask you if you want to reboot each time you click it, answer NO until after you've pasted the last file name, at which time you should answer Yes.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

***

Reboot into Safe Mode. To do this with Windows XP, you can follow these steps from Microsoft:
  • Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when you the Boot Menu appears.
  • Select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.
  • When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER.
***

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.exe. Click "Next" in the setup, then make sure "Run Nailfix" is checked and click "Finish". Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

***

Next, run Ewido again.
  • Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.
  • If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so we need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged), select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections". If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. I'll see that in the log you will post later and let you know if ewido needs to be run again.
  • When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.
***

Then run HijackThis, click Scan, and place a checkmark by the following item:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...rch/search.html

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com

***

Now, run CCleaner.
  • Uncheck "Cookies" under "Internet Explorer".
  • Click on Run Cleaner in the lower right-hand corner. This can take quite a while to run.
Finally, restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Hello and thanks for your help......... So far I have gone through most of your steps and have had a pretty good understanding. However I have an issue now with running the nailfix.exe in safe mode. At the point where you instructed me to run nailfix.exe it is showing up as nailfix.cmd so I'm not sure what I should do or if I took a wrong turn in a previous step. Is there a way to change this to an exe file or what? Please let me know what I should do to continue on with the removal of the spyware and malware....... Thank you for all your help and looking forward to hearing back from you! By the way here is the area where I didn't go any futher. ----------------------->

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.exe. Click "Next" in the setup, then make sure "Run Nailfix" is checked and click "Finish". Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.

Just unzip it to the desktop. There will be a folder there after unzipping called nailfix.

In safe mode, double-click the nailfix.cmd
Your screen will disappear shortly and then re-appear. That's ok. Then move on with the rest of the advise.

Thank you for the feedback. I will edit my text for future use

Spysweeper is keeping your computer from cleaning. We will disable it for the duration of the advise.

To disable SpySweeper Shields
  • Click Shields on the left.
  • Click Internet Explorer and uncheck all items.
  • Click Windows System and uncheck all items.
  • Click Startup Programs and uncheck all items.
  • Exit Spysweeper.
***

HijackThis is being run from a temporary folder. Please create a new folder for it and place the program into that new folder.

***

Please read these instructions carefully. You may want to print them. Copy the text to a Notepad file and save it to your desktop! We will need the file later.
Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

Download SmitRem to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

***

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

***

Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.

The program will now go to the main screen
[/list]You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files. On the left hand side of the main screen click update
Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed, close Ewido for now.

***

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, please download and install AdAware SE 1.06.
Check Here on how setup and use it - please make sure you update it first.

***

Download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Place the following lines (complete paths) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox, and click the red button with the white X on it after each

C:\WINDOWS\dsr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\dinst.exe
c:\windows\system32\xcifkcd.exe

For these file, put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot". Copy and paste each file into the file name box, then click the red button with the X after each. It will ask you if you want to reboot each time you click it, answer NO until after you've pasted the last file name, at which time you should answer Yes.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

***

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

***

Rerun nailfix.cmd

***

Use Windows Explorer to remove these folders:
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\
C:\Program Files\WinFixer 2005\
Close Windows Explorer when you are done.

***

Open HijackThis
Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running.
Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

***

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed.
Post me the contents of the smitfiles.txt log as you post back.

***

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

***

Now open Ewido Security Suite:* Click on scanner
* Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
* When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
* Save the report to your desktop
Reboot your computer.

***

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

***

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.

We are getting there slowly.

Ok I've printed your instructions but I'm having trouble getting started....... It seems that the spysweeper shields that you mentioned above are nowhere to be found. Maybe I'm just not clear on what I'm looking for. Should this be a desktop icon or should I look in my C: drive? When you mentioned clicking shields on the left I wasn't clear on what you meant by "left" and never saw any shields to click on..... Anyway I don't mean to sound like a dumbass but I'm lost as to how to get this part of the process going. Thanks again for all your help!

You need to open Spysweeper to be able to disable the program.
I should have told you to do so. I'm sorry.

ok, so I have followed your instructions but I wasn't able to find some of the files that you wanted me to delete when I ran Hijackthis in safemode. I believe it was three files that you mentioned that I did not see at all in the log that hijackthis gave me........ The files were as follows

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [bmkjwq] c:\windows\system32\xcifkcd.exe r

Anyway I followed through the rest of the steps and here I am again posting the logs.

We are getting there. You are doing great

Did you run the nailfix?

Download APT
Open apt and search in the window for the zbobjt.
Open your C:\Windows\system32 folder and search for whljzgy.exe. Don't delete it yet, just leave the system32 folder open so you can see the bad file.
In apt again, Select the bad process and Click Kill3

Then immediately delete the bad file from your system32 folder.

Run HiJackThis. Place a check next to these items and click FIX CHECKED:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [zbobjt] c:\windows\system32\whljzgy.exe r

Close HijackThis when you are done.

***

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Place the following lines (complete paths) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox, and click the red button with the white X on it after each

C:\WINDOWS\INF\banner.inf
C:\WINDOWS\INF\farmmext.inf
C:\WINDOWS\delprot.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system32\whljzgy.exe

For these file, put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot". Copy and paste each file into the file name box, then click the red button with the X after each. It will ask you if you want to reboot each time you click it, answer NO until after you've pasted the last file name, at which time you should answer Yes.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

***

Rerun Panda. Post me a fresh log using HijackThis and the Panda log.

Disable SpySweeper and AntiSpyware:

To disable SpySweeper Shields
  • Click Shields on the left.
  • Click Internet Explorer and uncheck all items.
  • Click Windows System and uncheck all items.
  • Click Startup Programs and uncheck all items.
  • Exit Spysweeper.
***

***

We have a infection here that changes names each time. In the HijackThis log you posted it was this blue line:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpySweeper] "C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\SpySweeper.exe" /startintray
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [znafsb] c:\windows\system32\zhmxedc.exe r
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Dinst] C:\WINDOWS\dinst.exe

I would like you to check first what it changed into this time. Write that down and use that data.

***

Download Process Explorer from http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html

Run Process Explorer and find the Process in the list of Processes [it's what is between the brackets].
Select the process and click Process > Suspend.
[znafsb] c:\windows\system32\zhmxedc.exe

Then in HijackThis click Config > Misc Tools > Delete a file on reboot...
In the explorer Window select the file
c:\windows\system32\zhmxedc.exe or whatever it changed into.
When prompted if you want to reboot click YES
Leave Process explorer running with the process suspended.

***

After the reboot check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = websearch.drsnsrch.com/q.cgi?q=

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

O2 - BHO: Band Class - {00F1D395-4744-40f0-A611-980F61AE2C59} - C:\WINDOWS\dsr.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [znafsb] c:\windows\system32\zhmxedc.exe r

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Dinst] C:\WINDOWS\dinst.exe

O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

***

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Place the following lines (complete paths) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox, and click the red button with the white X on it after each

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DrPMon.dll
C:\WINDOWS\INF\payload2.inf
C:\WINDOWS\abiuninst.htm

For these file, put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot". Copy and paste each file into the file name box, then click the red button with the X after each. It will ask you if you want to reboot each time you click it, answer NO until after you've pasted the last file name, at which time you should answer Yes.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

***

Please rerun Ewido and Panda.

Post back here with:
a fresh HijackThis log
an Ewido log
a Panda log.

How are things now?

Ok I'm back at my computer and trying to figure out where I'm at. I took the first couple of steps and now I'm at the point where you wanted me to check what the line that is in blue turnned into this time. Should I run another hijackthis log at this point and look for the line between the lines that you posted above and below the blue line from your last message? If so when I ran the hijackthis log again there was no line that popped up.......... At least not between the two lines that you had mentioned above. Also I tried to go to the next step and was really really confused there. I downloaded the process explorer program to my c: drive and then unziped it with Winzip to my desktop...... After opening up I didn't see the line or process in any of the lines there. Therefore I never chose to suspend the process of [znafsb] c:\windows\system32\zhmxedc.exe

Anyway at this point everything is very confusing and i'm not sure if I'm doing everything right. Maybe you can give me a little bit more details on what I'm lookng for or if I should be worried if I don't see a file that you mention. ok so let me know what I should do and thank you for all that you have done so far! just keep me posted on what I should do next.

Thank you
Zenki
