I'm about to get rid of an old PC - know that it is advisable to wipe the hard drive, not just delete documents, for privacy. Can anyone help with simple instructions?
thanks

Darik's Boot And Nuke : http://www.dban.org/
You would need to install it to a floppy or USB pen drive and then boot off that disk. More details on that page.

KillDisk : http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm
You have to create a CD, then boot off that CD to wipe out hard disk. More information on the web site.

C-4 and some Det cord  Really Killdisk is about as formatted as you need if the computer still needs to be operational. Otherwise physically drilling holes through the drive will do the trick.

Thanks for help. I downloaded KillDisk, burnt a CD - turned on the old PC and found the lights were on but no-one was home. So in the end we just physically mangled the hard drive! (Or at least my other half assured me he had!)
Cheers CH
