Hello,

My computer has had the Personal Antivirus installed without my consent. I am running windows xp home. About 3 days ago, I lost my internet. I ran AVG and it picked up the Win32/Cryptor virus. I removed it, but it didn't help my internet. I previously had combofix installed, so I ran it. I got my internet back, but a lot of other problems came with it. Upon running combofix for the first time, it said my system32/imm32.dll file was infected. At the beginning of the run, a message error box popped up stating "This application has failed to start because mscawgses.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." Also, at the top of the box, it refers to combofix.exe file followed by "Unable To Locate Component." I had to keep closing this message box out by clicking it at least 300 times, for combofix to complete. This was very annoying. Each time the error message box opened, a new .exe file would be listed. It seemed like every time combofix initiated a .exe file, the error message box kept opening for each file combofix executed. This did not stop there. After combofix completed, I got my internet back, although very slow. Now, anytime I click on any program, the error message box will pop up first with the same message, only a different .exe file listed, depending on what program I am trying to open. I downloaded malewarebytes and got it to run, and it picked up the Personal Antivirus along with the TrojanHorse Dropper.BravixQ. I removed all the entries with malewarebytes, but still have the same problem. I ran combofix again, and it keeps saying that my system32/imm32.dll file is infected. The error messge box is ruthless. It's getting more frequent. It even pops up when I reboot. The file it lists as bad is winlogon.exe with a couple other files as well, although I can't remember those files. I have to click and click to keep closing the boxes just to get windows to boot up. I ran malewarebytes a couple times after that, and it doesn't pick anything up. I also ran spybot and it picked up Win32.IRCBot.kow, Virtumonde, and Virtumonde.sdn. I fixed the problems with spybot. I have downloaded and ran the dds program as recommeded, as well as RootRepeal. The DDS program ran fine, and I am posting the contents of the two text files as was instructed. RootRepeal will NOT run. I'm unsure as to why, unless it's the nagging and persistent error message box that keeps popping up. My computer is running very slow and sluggish. I'm at my wits end here, and desperately need help. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

If I don't respond within 2 days, please feel free to PM me.
Please don't ask for help via PM. The forums are there for a reason. Please post in the forums so others may benefit as well.
