The quick bit of reading I did doing a Google for "gateway 300s memory" says that 512 is the maximum capacity it will handle.

i saw that one too, but i think it was for a 300s (maybe earlyer version??) with a pc110-pc133 card....mine was new the end of 2002,,and has a pent 4 1.8 gig, and pc2100 card, I did ask one of the sites selling memory cards and they said i could go with 2 512 pc2100 cards,,(from them of course) so I started searching and found some pc2100 1gig cards on ebay,,,and am waiting for them to reply to see if they'd think they were compatible with my system

I suggest that you not buy RAM...on eBay.

Crucial.com is a reliable vendor of RAM, with a guarantee that such will work in your system and a warranty.

According to this the best you will get since you are limited to two slots is 1 Gig. 5x512.

This is a link to your current PC specs page using the provided serial number to look it up. It does list it as a P 4.

Disclaimer; The way they have it listed I am not really sure of that either.
