I have been infected with Virtumonde for some time now. The symptoms I am experiencing are frequent popups and a complete block off from visiting google or using google search through toolbar, also, i have experienced numerous glitches at startup such as the blue screen where it seems to run through a bunch of code before resuming. I am pretty sure there are probably some other, more serious effects going on in the background that i have not noticed yet.

so far, i have tried (in safe mode) Malwarebytes anti malware, vundofix, superantispyware, avg antivirus, vundobegone, symantec virtumonde removal tool, and yet, when i use spybot again, it shows that there is still some virtumonde in there, but it does not recognize it as a threat so it doesnt give me the option to delete it. I should mention when i ran all of these scans, none of them detected virtumonde except spybot, which is why i used spybot sd check whether it was still present in the system.

thanks for your help.

here is the dds report:

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE
regards,
schrauber

hello and thank you for getting back to me.
i was just a little worried because i was not sure if i was even in the queue.

anyway, the description from the first post still stands.
heres a brief summary:

i still cannot access any page that utilizes google or google.com itself.
i have tried all of the programs listed in the first post and none of them recognize virtumonde except spyboy sd and it proceeds to just gloss over the virus.
according to spybot, there are many many .dll s and .sdn s files that have the name virtumonde in them.

here are the new dds files.

thank you, i look forward to the next reply.

Hi Ranier Wolfcastle,

Welcome to BC HijackThis forum and sorry for the delay. I am farbar. I am going to assist you with your problem.

Please refrain from making any changes to your system (updating Windows, installing applications, removing files, etc.) from now on as it might prolong handling your log and make the job for both of us more difficult.

In this post we are going to take care of the issue of not getting to Google pages.
  • You have the program Spybot S&D (Teatimer option) running on your machine. We need to disable TeaTimer so it does not interfere with the fixes we are about to do. This will only take a few seconds.
    • First disable TeaTimer:
      • Run Spybot-S&D
      • Go to the Mode menu, and make sure Advanced Mode is selected
      • On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
      • Uncheck Resident TeaTimer and OK any prompts
      • Restart your computer.
Instruction is also here: How to disable TeaTimer during HijackThis Cleanup

Note:If teatimer gives you a warning afterwards that some changes were made, allow this instead of blocking it.

    • Then download ResetTeaTimer.exe to your desktop.
      • Doubleclick ResetTeaTimer.exe and let it run.
Note: The Teatimer should be kept disabled until I give you the clean sign.

  • This small application you may want to keep and use to keep the computer clean.
    Download CCleaner from here http://www.ccleaner.com/
    • Run the installer to install the application.
    • When it gives you the option to install Yahoo toolbar uncheck the box next to it.
    • Run CCleaner. (make sure under Windows tab all the boxes of Internet Explorer and Windows explorer are checked. Under System check Empty Recycle Bin and Temporary Files. Under Application tab all the boxes should be checked).
    • Click Run Cleaner.
    • Close CCleaner.
  • We are going to remove OpenDNS. Please make sure of the following settings:
    • Go to start => Control panel => Double-click Network and Sharing Center.
    • In the left window select Manage network Connection.
    • In the right window right-click Local Area connection and select Properties .
    • Internet Protocol Version 6 (IP6v) should be checked. Double-click on it: Make sure of the following settings:
      • The option Obtain an IP address automatically should be checked.
      • The option Obtain DNS server address automatically should be checked.
    • Click OK.
    • Internet Protocol Version 4 (IP4v) should be checked. Double-click on it.
      • The option Obtain an IP address automatically should be checked.
      • The option Obtain DNS server address automatically should be checked.
    • Click OK twice.
  • Now please reboot the computer and tell me if you are able to get to Google.com
