Hi .

Try deleting it in Device Manager...and rebooting.

Remove any flash drives which are currently attached.

An .mp3 player...is a flash drive that's been slightly modified, that's why users can store data files on them.

Sometimes...having such things attached when trying to solve problems...is a self-inflicted wound that can be avoided.

I've seen my optical drive not reflected as removeable storage...it still worked properly.

I can't give you a better answer than that.

Has anyone been inside the case?

Since the tray will not open it sounds like the power connector is disconnected.

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around

Does it even show up in Computer management> Disk management?

The lower section on the left hand side?

If not and you are sure both the power and data cables are plugged in then it may be time for a new drive.
