You need to find out first what process(es) are eating up the CPU usage. While in Windows, right click on the Task Bar, click on Task Manager, click on Show Processes from all Users, click on the Processes tab, click twice on the CPU header, this will move the processes using the most resource to the top so you can better see where the problem is.

If you are using FF 3.5.2 check out this link: http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_forum...parentId=415618

If you are still using a 3.0 version look here: http://www.greenmtngeek.com/2008/06/firefo...e-try-this-fix/

The system idle process is acting normally, the problem is with Firefox. firefox.exe should run between 0-5% unless you are really engaged in something demanding. I am running Firefox now with 8 tabs open and CPU usage is between 1 and 3%.

Did you read the article with the link on 3.5.2? Some are saying it's a FF problem and either going back to an earlier version or switching to Chrome or Opera.

Windows is a bit strange. The system idle process is actually showing the unused resources.
That is why when you open FF the system idle value drops in accordance with the FF usage.
Look a it this way. If it really were using 90+% of your machines resources then you PC would be crawling.
