Hi.

A few weeks ago, someone on Diablo II got angry. We were dueling, he did the classic "I'm going to hack you." I ignored him, went about my business. Unlikely suspect, but the only current one.
Anyhow. The source is less the issue than the reality.

I've lost functionality.
-- Trouble fixing references, such as if I rename the source file of a shortcut, the shortcut cannot find the new reference.
-- RootRepeal does not work. Driver not found.
-- Many programs would not launch. Miscellaneous programs like other games, Vuze, Apophysis will not launch, or sometimes look as if they might, and then do not.
-- AVG Free failed, I downloaded a new set of security systems and arrayed a new one. The new ones work fine.
-- New security systems installed are: PC Tools AV // Spyboy Search & Destroy // Ad-Aware // ThreatFire // Secunia PSI.
-- When scanned with PC Tools AntiVirus: Zlob!sd5 - Downloader.CodecPack - Spy.Agent!ct were found. Two counts of Zlob, 1 per the others.
-- Unsure if PC Tools cleaned properly and completely, requesting checks of scans for confirmation and additional advice.
-- Finally, I recently moved into a new apartment, as the new leasee in a group of old friends. They are all college IT majors, and I do not wish to be seen as troubling. I am not. However, it's a moral duty to inform them that I've had a virus in the system, especially as they've been complaining about slowness and internet connectivity today.
-- I've delayed informing them of my suspicions until I had concrete evidence that something was wrong, and that something with my computer may be the cause of the problems. Having conclusive results and an applicable plan of action would be even better. I'll give a few hours to allow for assistance from the technicians here at Bleep, but am fully aware that a response may take longer. This is fine, we will be pro-active and I will update them.

HJT Log inline'd, DDS files (2) attached, RootRepeal crashlog attached. HJT log copy attached.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

I've done a lot of work and a lot of tinkering; I am still not entirely convinced that everything is solid though.

I _really_ have to study my Counseling Psychology, class is in an hour, I'll get back to you later tonight when the class is through.

Cheers! Thanks for answering. I do appreciate it, and you as a person. ^.~

For now, Blade, I'm sorry, but I just can't collect my thoughts long enough and take the time to go through the procedures thoroughly. Too much going on. Classes, homework, women, existential conflicts - the usual. So, we'll let the case rest. I do appreciate your efforts, and wish you the best.

Cheers mate.
