Usually i am pretty good about finding answers without having to ask; apparently my computer is smarter than me this time.

I was having an issue with the windows installer initiating every time i started the compuer and it would start, stop, get stuck, start again. i finally figured out it had something to do with HP Photosmart ( i recently installed a HP printer). I uninstalled everything associated with the printer, and then deleted all remaining files, and then cleaned out the remnants in the registry - reinstalled and it seemed to work.

But now i have noticed that every time i open Internet Explorer, there is a flash of "preparing to install." i do mean just a flash. if you aren't paying attention you wont see it. i had to do it a few times to make sure i wasnt hallucinating. but surely, there it is, every time i start IE (i havent seen it with other programs yet). I have not been able to figure out what program is attempting to install. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i figured it out. i narrowed it down to actually be an issue with IE itself. i restored IE to factory settings and VIOLA! solved.

that only took 2 days to figure out....
