Greetings all,

I came across this site after getting a pretty nasty virus on my computer...seems hackers are getting really smart and you no longer have to download files but just visit a site before some virus installs itself on your computer...

I know better to fall for the "you need a virus scanner software" type virus but it's still a hassle to remove...

My most recent virus is not allowing me to use any of my PC protection programs, uninstall them, or reinstall them...I also can't surf the web to get any help as I get redirected elsewhere....every thing I try, it is blocked by this virus...

I'm using my laptop now and although I am confident that the staff on this site would be able to help me, I'm doing a clean install and then I'm hoping to get advice on how to protect myself using free programs like AVG, super antispyware, Ad-Aware, CCleaner, Spybot, A-Squared when surfing sites.

The funny thing is I was searching for a tracklist for a particular live set I liked...and it was through one of these sites where the set was available to download I got this virus...

I would describe myself as a fairly knowledgeable computer user....I can build them from scratch, overclock, have good PC protection skills...till now I suppose  and overall, I would say understanding software and hardware and finding solutions online when needed, I'm fairly well versed in all areas.

I'm happy to be a member on this site and look forward to the new knowledge I can share and obtain while on here.

Cheers

Welcome to BC!
You will find a great deal of information about computer security best practices here, and hopefully following these can prevent future problems.

John
