I'm doing some housekeeping on a friends computer, probably the first time it's been done for years. The Norton AV had ceased updating years ago and I removed it and it's firewall. I ran AdAware & Spybot and dealt with Personal AntiVirus and Delf.Spool.cn infections. I then installed and ran NOD32 AV and also a BT Hub with hardware firewall. The PC is now invisible as far as GRC ShieldsUp! Is concerned. I don't like the looks of Trojan Interrupdate (netfilter.exe) (seen using msconfig – Startup) and am surprised that it hasn't been picked up by any of the tools. We also got a “%1 is not a valid parameter” message when sending a picture from Nikon Picture Project to Outlook. I reinstalled Picture Project and repaired Outlook before reading that it could be indicative of rootkit malware, though I can't find the reference again. The error message has disappeared, but the picture does not transfer.

I'd appreciate your expert guidance and opinion on the general health of the PC.

Many thanks

John

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.
