PC is a Dell Inspiron 1100 5years old running Xp Pro with 2 banks of mem 128MB DDR 266 CL2
Unit started running very slow
Tried to add memory 2 256MB DDR 333 Cl2.5 from Crucial and on boot I get the following:
Mem r/w failure @17ED004
Mem address line failure @ 17ED0000
Mem w/r failure @100032DC
Decreasing available mem
Took out 1 stick of 256 and the unit runs OK
I have tried other mem sticks and have detemined all mem is good
Put the original mem in and the second bank continues to give me the errors.
Now I assume that the second bank is shorted or something similar.
Will try anything to fix but not replace motherboard on this old unit.
Would consider repair if the price was reasonable - can anyone give me a ballpark figure on repair.
