Looks like I have a similar problem to other recent posts. My daughter downloaded something a couple of days ago that got past our McAfee AV. It was a browser hijacker that changed the home page to Google and then every time we cllcked on a search link, it would redirect to some advertising page. Don't know what it is, but there were some IE history pages related to ezanga.

It prevented AV scanning, the McAfee scanner would return an error and stop after a couple of seconds. I tried TrendMicro HouseCall but that was stopped dead in its tracks as well. It would start scanning then simply close with no errors and no message after a couple of seconds. Then I lost access to IE 8. When I clicked on the icon, I got the "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file.....".

I used another PC to load SpyBot S&D to a flash drive and installed it on the infected PC. SB also started scanning then closed after a couple of seconds. When I clicked on its links, I got the same "Windows cannot access..." error message.

So I am in the same boat as some others and hoping for help.
