Got a friend's infected computer. But I can't run any of the normal programs. Everything I try to run, just closes down almost immediately. Tried SpyBot, Norton, even HijackThis, all close right after the scan begins. This happens in normal and safe mode.

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Hello; please note I'm not a staff member here, but perhaps I can help get the process started.

First off, it's helpful to subscribe to your topic, so you'll be notified by email as soon as someone replies:

To subscribe, go to your topic, and at the top right hand corner by your first post, click the Options button and then click
Track this topic. Then bullet the immediate notification bubble. Then press submit.

You might be able to get Malwarebytes' AntiMalware to run as long as you rename it. Follow this guide (from Computer Pro):

I'd also suggest checking for rootkits right off the bat. Here's a guide to using RootRepeal (from Blade):

Then post the logs back here. If the programs won't run, let us know what happens.

Good luck - Straythe
