window xp logging off and on problem

I have prevosiously encountered a problem to where someone logs off there deskyop and someone else logs on to there desk top the desk top would be blank and we would hav to log back off and then back on into the screen name desk top to fix the problem. Would anyone happen to know what the problem might be?

What version of Windows & Service Pack installed?
