Okay, I'm having loads of trouble with my comp after this XP upgrade. I had windows 98 and everything was fine (I had sound and the cd-rw drive was burning discs fine). Now I have no sound and the cd burner doesn't even exist on 'my computer'. How can I locate the driver and reinstall? Is this even the proper step? I have the approriate burning software, how can I get it to work again?

What is the make and model of your cd-rw?

Forgive me, I have no idea. It's standard issue with the 2000 Gateway PC. I have a regular CD drive, a floppy drive and a CD-RW drive. My computer doesn't show and can't locate the CD-RW drive. It worked fine with Windows 98. When I upgraded, it 'disappeared'. My fear is that the driver needed to run the CD-RW is not compatible with Windows XP.

You need to go to Gateway Support and see if they have a firmware upgrade for that drive that will make it compatible with XP. They have a feature where you can enter the serial number and it will direct you to any updates.
