I cannot get on any websites:"Internet Explorer cannot display page" There is no error code to go with the message. I have tried the 'diagnose connection problems' button, and it gives me the 'no problems with your network connection found.'

However, using CMD, I can ping yahoo.com, ask.com, google.com, but not aol.com or msn.com (or any microsoft websites). And, oddly enough, the windows update works, but no antivirus or anti spyware updates work. I am completely stumped. Please help.

I have a Compaq Presario CQ50 laptop runnning Windows Vista Home Premium.

I have been using Avira Antivirus and AdAware AE for protection. I am connecting wirelessly to cable internet connection with a firewall enabled router. (No other computer on the network has connection problems.) Windows Firewall and Windows Defender are turned off. I had this problem with IE7 to start and thought upgrading to IE8 might overwrite any corrupted file, but I still have the same problem.
