I have been having an awful lot of trouble with my computer of late. I have windows 98 SE and IE6.I keep getting error messages and crashes, also illegal operations and fatal exceptions. The error messages usually start with IE, and then loads of different things one after another. My NAV is up to date and shows no viruses. Spybot and spywareblaster come up clean. I have done a thorough disk scan which has come up clean. Someone suggested to me that it may be due to a corrupted hard drive or a problem with the motherboard. How do I find out what is causing the trouble whether it is hardware or software? I am at my wits end.I am not very computer savvy but have friends who try to explain things to me. I add a hijack this log and would be grateful if someone could look at it.

System is very unstable.keeps crashing, lots of fatal exception and error messages.the error messages usually start with IE and then on to just about everything.I keep having to restart and frequently the shutting down is also a problem. Any suggestions other than chucking the whole thing out of the window?
All advice gratefully received.

just a few days ago with diskeeper lite.
I just tried to do a NAV scan and got a BSOD with the following message
An exception OE has occurred at0028:C004B579 in VxD VFAT(01) +00009805.This was called from 0028:C004BD98 in VxD VFAT(01) +0000A024.
Does this mean anything to you ?
