Hello Everyone,

I use my computer tor rip and play audio CD's and DVD's. I used Alcohol to make an image and it stopped working. I used it before no problems now when I insert a CD or DVD it spins but does not play. Is there any hope? If this is not in the right section, I ask if there is a moderator to please move it. Thanks,

hortoholic

I would try using a different software package to rip, like windows media player or nero, and if they dont work, then yes, your drive is most likely dead.

It doesn't work on WMP either. Is there anything like a USB CD ROM that I can plug in to play music and other CD and rip them to my PC? what I mean is any good ones? The drive spins but the CD is not played. Is it gone?

Is Alcohol still installed?

Have you tried uninstalling it (via Device Manager) then rebooting and allowing it to reinstall?

Have you tried deleting upper/lower filters?

Yes. Alcohol is still installed. But I have no clue as to what filter keys are and which one I need to delete. Registry editor? If that doesn't work, i'll uninstall it. Thank you for all you answers...

Some info on upper/lower filters:

Upper & Lowe Filters - http://delltrain.wordpress.com/2008/07/15/...d-lower-filter/

Upper & Lower Filters - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316529

Upper and Lower Filters. CD-ROM 314060 - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

Even though this is a routine repair effort, I must caution you that making inappropriate registry edits can potentially cripple the system. For that reason, the first thing that you need to do...back up your registry.

ERUNT Registry Backup Tool - http://www.snapfiles.com/get/erunt.html

Once the registry is properly backed up, try the routine described in the links above.
