Hi, my first post so please be kind!!

I have a major problem, when my pc loads I have no task bar or desktop icons?!

All I can ascess is task manager & running explorer.exe I can then see everything. This is the same in safe mode. I am running XP & really don't want to loose what I have on the pc.

I have had a virus which I know is now removed.

Any ideas??

Cheers for your help.......

Try the fix at Kelly's Korner.

Restore Desktop Icons and Taskbar - #195 on the right.

Right click on it and save the .vbs file to your desktop. Then, double click on the file icon (on your desktop) to run the script. You may need to reboot your computer for the changes to take affect.

With any fix like this you should create a new restore point and backup the registry first. For backing up the registry I like to use ERUNT.

Warning : Modifying Windows registry may render your computer inoperable. You should backup your Windows` registry before you proceed.
To backup registry, you can use ERUNT ( http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/ ). If anything goes wrong you can always restore registry from the backup.

1. Open Start Menu > Run, type cmd and press Enter. This would open a command prompt window.
2. In the command prompt window, copy-paste the following exactly as it is shown and press Enter :
REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /v Shell /t REG_SZ /d Explorer.exe /f

To paste in the command prompt window, right click on it and select Paste.
