This is driving me CRAZY! Adaware is the only program that claims to fimd a Trojan called Win32Trojan. Tdss. When asked to remove it a Threatwork box popsup saying no files found to send. McAfee can't detect it and spyzooka has failed miserably. Combofix scares the crap out of me and I do not want to use it. I am posting my most recent Hijackthis scan- within the last ten minutes- in the hope that someone here can help me before I have to trash the computer and buy another. Thanks in advance. Shirley. OK?? I don't seem to be able to find how to post the log file. Can you help?? Thank you, Shirley

Greetings skravetz and Welcome to the forums,

If you think "trashing the computer and buying another one" is more favorable than running combofix then we may already have met a dead end. Think of Combofix as though it were Obi-Wan Kenobi...in this case, it's your only hope. Let us know how you wish to proceed. Thanks!

Whatever I am stuck with seems to be able to hide from everything. AdAware finds the trojan in the topic title but cannot remove it. I am posting a Hijackthis log in the hope that someone here can help. Thank you, ShirleyLogfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2

Hello skravetz,

I have merged your latest topic to your previously existing topic on the same issue. Please keep all posts regarding this issue to this topic by using the Add Reply button found near the bottom right of the page. Starting new topics confuses things for everyone and delays the assistance you receive.

While you are right to not use Combofix on your own, with a helper you will be all right as long as you follow his directions as stated and ask any questions you have before executing any instructions. If you do that and something does go haywire, the tools will be in place for your helper to resolve it.

Back to you 1972vet,

Orange Blossom :thumbup2:

skravetz are you still with us? As previously mentioned, combofix is the tool we need to use. Having that in mind, let us know if you would like to proceed. I will try to make the instructions simple to follow.

OK vet, I'm going to let my old man, George do this with you. He is also a vet, tho he was leaving the military in '72. He says go for it, it's already messed up so there's nothing to lose. George works days and is home most evenings so we'll keep checking this forum or you can email us at skravetz@shenhgts.net We have cable broadband so hopefully that may help. Let us know how you would like to proceed. Thank you very much, Shirley

OK George, if there is anything about an instruction that isn't clear, please ask questions before you make an attempt so I can clarify things for you...

Please download combofix from This Webpage...and read through the instructions there for running the tool.

***Important Note***
Please read through the guidance on that web page carefully and thoroughly...and install the Recovery Console. Using this tool without the Recovery Console installed is NOT RECOMMENDED.

If you have Windows Vista, you can skip the recovery console step...in Vista it's in the System Recovery Options menu. The System Recovery Options menu is on the Windows Vista installation disc. If Windows doesn't start correctly, you can use these tools to repair startup problems.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot into a special recovery (repair) mode that is not otherwise available. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It's a simple procedure that will only take a few moments.

Once installed, a blue screen prompt should appear that reads as follows:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

When you see that screen, please continue as follows:
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please post that log back here on your next reply. Thanks!

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Got your info Vet and we will do this. However, life has just thrown another curve. Med problems involving Shirley's youngest son will keep us away from home for a while. Just a day or three. I will get back ASAP. I have printed your instructions and locked the page into favorites so I will be able to do the downloads. I really appreciate your help and will follow thru ASAP. If you need a new Hijackthis file just let me know. Talk to you soon, George
