using an xp professional oem install disc and an oem product key comes up as invalid. Microsoft has confirmed that it is a valid oem key but in order to troubleshoot any more they require I pay 59.99. Is there anything I can do?

Give it a shot...of course I am assuming that you used the key on the OEM package and made sure you entered it correctly.

Has the disk any CD-key written over the box back? If yes then use it to install and later when XP is installed change the key to the one you received from Microsoft.
