I recently had a virus that norton could not pick up.It the suggestion of a friend I installed and ran combofix. It deleted the virus for sure but it also did much more. I knew this was a risk but I did choose to take it.
It disabled my network at first but I was able to succeed in restoring that. However it has removed the complete list of all items in the "Add and Remove Programs".I have registry mechanic and I did a restore point with that but still nothing. I also ran the "Regsvr32 Appwiz.cpl command. It says it was successfull but still nothing.
I cannot run system restore either as it tells me I am not able to restore a previous time although there are valid restore points listed.
I tried reloading Windows XP but my disc version is older then my installed ( I installed from Microsoft Website a few years ago) So the only way to reload is to uninstall windows and reinstall...I dont want to do that and from what I can see microsoft no longer offers XP on thier site for download.
I am no familier enough with reg keys to use the Recovery Console..The only thing I have not done is "System Restore in safe mode as it does not create a restore point to undo the changes and I dont want to chance it.
Does anyone have any ideas how to get the add and remove programs back and to get system restore to work?
One more think...Comboxfix created a list of my programs that were in add and remove...its in the form of notebook....is thier a way to use this to restore?
Thanks.
