Hello all,

Been dealing with this problem for the past day and a half. It started with redirects of my google search results. Any topic I'd search when I click on a returned search result my firefox browser will take me to a bogus site like...
http://advasoft.com
or
http://wagggsworld.com
or
http://accdpel.org
.

I tried to resolve the problem myself, and I'm sorry but I'm not 100% percent sure the order of things I tried... but I think this is how it went.

I ran McAfee Security scan and it found:

Detection name: Generic Rootkit.d!rootkit
File: NTOSKRNL -HOOK

The problem with the redirects didn't go away, so then I tried windows xp's system restore. I tried to restore to the previous day but the restore failed. I then tried to restore to a week ago and now the restore wont work at all. When I get to screen in restore where you have a choice to click "back", "next", or "cancel". The next button does nothing. the back and cancel button work, but somehow the "next" button seems to be disabled!!

So then I started searching for a solution. I downloaded Malwarebytes Anti-malware. Updated Malwarebytes before scanning. Here's the log...

So I figured that did the trick. But the browser hijack is still occurring.

So, I ran McAfee scan again. This time it found two detections:

Detection Name: BackDoor -DVU
File: c:\windows\system32\drivers\skynetqwoojiho.sys

and

Detection name: Generic Rootkit.d!rootkit
File: NTOSKRNL -HOOK

the hijack problem still did go away. And system restore still wont work.

So, I tried Malwarebytes again...

NOW.. i still have the browser hijack, system restore won't work and I get an error message pop up when I open ANY thing

the application of DLL globalroot\systemroot\system32\SKYNETivspylbj.dll is not a valid Window image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

I need you guys's help.

Hi billbilly789,

We will run ComboFix.

You should NOT use Combofix unless you have been instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert.
It is intended by its creator to be used under the guidance and supervision of an Malware Removal Expert, not for private use.

Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again.
Please read Combofix's Disclaimer.
Further, ComboFix logs are not permitted outside the HijackThis forums and then only when requested by a HJT Team member.

You need to disable your McAfee SecurityCenter before running ComboFix, as it will prevent it from running.

Note: If you already have a copy of ComboFix on your system it is essential that you delete it before downloading this copy.

Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

To work properly, you must install ComboFix on the Desktop..
Post the log from ComboFix in your next reply,

A caution - ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making IE the default browser.
ComboFix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal and increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you -- please tell me.
Have no other programs running. Your Task Bar should be clear of any program entries including your Browser.
Do not run Combofix more than once.
Do not touch your mouse/keyboard until the scan has completed, as this may cause the process to stall or your computer to lock.
The scan will temporarily disable your desktop, and if interrupted may leave your desktop disabled. If this occurs, please reboot to restore the desktop.
Even when ComboFix appears to be doing nothing, look at your Drive light. If it is flashing, Combofix is still at work.
If I've saved you time & money,
please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you! You can donate using a credit card and PayPal. Thank you!

Hi billbilly789,

You need to disable your McAfee SecurityCenter before running ComboFix, as it will prevent it from running.

To Disable McAfeee Security Center
Posted Image

Click Start, then Run and type Notepad and click OK.
Open notepad - don't use any other text editor than notepad or the script will fail.
Copy/paste the text in the code box below into notepad:

Registry::
[HKLM\~\services\sharedaccess\parameters\firewallpolicy\standardprofile]
"EnableFirewall"=dword:00000001

Name the Notepad file CFScript.txt and Save it to your desktop.

IMPORTANT: The above script was written specifically for this infection on this person's computer. It is NOT to be used on another computer, as it may cause damage that could result in a format!

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply
If I've saved you time & money,
please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you! You can donate using a credit card and PayPal. Thank you!

Hi billy,

Now we look for stragglers. :thumbup2:

Please disable any running anti-virus program before running Kaspersky Online Scanner.

Close any open browsers

Please do a scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner

You can refer to this animation by sundavis.

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.

Click on the Accept button and install any components it needs.
 • The program will install and then begin downloading the latest definition files.
 • After the files have been downloaded on the left side of the page in the Scan section select My Computer.
 • This will start the program and scan your system.
 • The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run.
 • Once the scan is complete, click on View scan report
 • Now, click on the Save Report as button.
 • In the drop down box labeled Files of type change the type to Text file.
 • Save the file to your desktop.
 • Copy and paste that information in your next post.
This scanner will only scan. It does not remove any malware it finds.
If I've saved you time & money,
please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you! You can donate using a credit card and PayPal. Thank you!

Hi billbilly789,

Please close FireFox and Internet Explorer browser before running OTM.

Please download OTM by OldTimer and save it to your desktop.
Double click the icon on your desktop to run it.
(Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).

Copy the lines in the code box below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):
Do not include the word "Code".

:files
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\Downloads\Setup_FreeFlvConverter.exe
C:\Program Files\Free FLV Converter\FreeFLVConverter.exe

:commands
[emptytemp]
[Reboot]

Return to OTM, right click in the "Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.

Click the red Moveit! button.
Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
Close OTM

Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.
If I've saved you time & money,
please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you! You can donate using a credit card and PayPal. Thank you!

Hi billbilly789,

Here you go. :)

Delete Security Check and RootRepeal from your desktop.

Uninstall ComboFix, go to to Start > Run & type in ComboFix /u
Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete any of its related folders and files (Qoobox
VundoFix Backups, Avenger, _OTM3), reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

If OTM is still on your desktop, the open OTM and click the CleanUp! button on top.
In the left pane, it will display a list of tools and other related files which you may have downloaded/used during our cleanup + backup folders that were created with the bad files present.
They are not needed anymore, so OtM will delete them.
Do not edit anything in that Window!
Don't worry if it displays some tools you didn't download/use.
Click Yes when it asks to Begin cleanup process.
Then reboot your computer.
