Knucklehead. That's me! I've been using PCs since 1989 and have never had a problem I couldn't fix myself... until now.

I've recently gotten into karaoke and had found an old freeware version of CDRWin online that successfully wrote my files to CD. Didn't have it backed up yet when a power supply problem (as I found out later) crashed my hard drive. When I rebooted, and had to step away from the computer, chkdsk went into action, destroying virtually all the directories and file names. I found "testdisk" online and recovered A LOT of files, but alas, no CDRWin. I found an "XP Freeware" site and the file sharing program Cabos, and went after some CDRWin found there. WHAMMY, I now have something with the symptoms of Virtumundo that apparently stops HiJackThis and Malwarebytes from running, and is invisible to Vundofix and VirtumundoBeGone. So here I am.

BTW, this is not intended to be a post of my problem. I'll post in the appropriate place.
