Thanks for any and all help with my problems. I use Antivir frequently, so that alone isn't getting rid of whatever is infecting my computer. Symptoms: Redirects on Firefox when web browsing, svchost.exe is crashing (send error report window pops up constantly), sometimes I get the blue screen when I try to shut down the computer properly. Here is my DDS log and attach log.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine.  Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links.  Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool.  No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note:  You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run.  After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection.  Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

I am experiencing redirects whenever I try to use google or another search engine.
Also, after about a week of the original symptoms (above) I started getting popups on my desktop all relating to "Windows Antivirus Pro" but I fought it off using MBAM, and I haven't had anymore of those popups for a few days now.
Here is my DDS log, with attach log attached.

Hello Pixel556 :thumbup2: Welcome to the BC HijackThis Log and Analysis forum. Sorry about your wait, but I will be assisting you in cleaning up your system from here on out.

I ask that you refrain from running tools other than those we suggest while we are performing the clean-up. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process.

In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. By doing this and then choosing Immediate E-Mail notification and then clicking on Proceed you will be advised when we respond the your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.

After 5 days if a topic is not replied to we assume it has been abandoned and it is closed.

I need to get a little different look at your system so please perform the following:

We need to scan for Rootkits with GMER
  • Please download GMER from one of the following locations, and save it to your desktop:
    • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
    • Zip Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Close any and all open programs, as this process may crash your computer.
  • Double click Posted Image or Posted Image on your desktop.
  • Allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • You may see this window. If you do, click No.
    Posted Image
  • Click on Posted Image and wait for the scan to finish.

I had the scan done that needed to be posted...but now my computer keeps rebooting over and over. It gets to the windows loading screen, then a black screen, and reboots back to the mobo screen. I am currently using the wife's laptop, but I can't get the log file here till I figure out how to fix compy. Any ideas? Please help!
I used canned air to clear out some dust, but that didn't help.

Can you get into Safe Mode?

This can be done tapping the F8 key as soon as you start your computer
You will be brought to a menu where you can choose to boot into safe mode.
Try choosing the option without networking support.
Please see here for additional details

No I cannot get into safe mode. I tried using safe mode "last known good configuration" and disable reboot which gave me a blue screen, saying "fatal error".

I know you told me you were getting Windows Antivirus Pro popups and you got rid of them with MBAM. Before you lost connection were you getting those or any other warnings from rogue programs that you can recall?

Not that I know of. A friend came over and tried to boot from the Windows cd with no luck. I'll be trying to backup my data on another hard drive and possibly reformat. Any suggestions?

Appreciate the help dude.

I have some info to help you if you want to reformat. I'm a little behind tonight but I will get it up for you in the morning. I am still trying to figure something out but from what you are telling me now things don't sound so good for anything other than reformatting.

Sorry, I haven't forgot you it's been a busy day. I had some things I was thinking about but if the computer will not boot from the CD then they wouldn't work either.

Here is the link to the Dell site that covers reinstallation.

Here is some others:

If you're not sure how to reformat or need help with reformatting, please review:Don't forget you will have to go to Microsoft Update and apply all Windows security patches after reformatting.

If you need additional assistance with reformatting or partitioning, you can start a new topic in the Windows XP Home and Professional forum. If you don't get a reply, please send me a PM and I will get someone to take a look.

Before I reformat, is there any way I can offload important files or do you believe the hard drive to be dead? I didn't hear any clicking, but I suppose thats possible.
