Just wanted to stop in and introduce myself. I came across this site while I was researching open-source software. I'm a big believer.
Also I'm old. Over 50 old. I've been interested in computers since high school when all we had was teletype machines hooked up to a mainframe at a nearby state college! As a summer job I worked at a large government contractor in the payroll office of their data systems division. I could look out the office door at a huge room filled with giant computers. I got to keypunch everyone's weekly time cards and run card to tape so everyone in the division could get paid.
I learned to do a bit a programming, including something called APL (A Programming Language). Played around with the stuff during college as well, spending time visiting with the computer guys of at Dartmouth. The I got a real job and didn't get back into things until about 1983.
Nowadays I dabble in helping people set up their computers for accessibility and teach senior citizens how to use computers and how to keep from getting infected, scammed and other technologically-advanced problems they are otherwise unprepared for. LOL.
