Ok, I can't exactly give a "detailed description of what this is" ... because I honestly don't know, but here's my best shot:
I have a file on my laptop(I don't know how exactly it got there) at this file path "C:\Users\(my user name)\AppData\Roaming\cmd\windows.exe". Multiple Security systems on my laptop have idetified this file as a virus. The systems I can currently name are as follows, along with their description of the virus, as much as I have access to at least... :

Windows Defender has identified it as "TrojanDownloader:Win32/Small.gen!I" and gives this info on it:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Category:
Trojan Downloader

Description:
This program is dangerous and downloads other programs.

Advice:
Remove this software immediately.

Windows Defender also gives me this website for more info on the Virus, none of which I found helpful, but maybe it can help you help me...

http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/T...;threatid=92596
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One Last thing about windows defender is that when it removes this threat, the file just comes right back, like it duplicates or something, exept it almost always comes back with a different name, like "Winlogon.exe" or "windows.exe" or "cmd.exe". Its like its trying to hide by rapidly changing.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I can't give good detailed information on what Norton Antivirus identified it as, because I had to do a system restore to back before norton was even on my PC because after norton tryed to block this stupid annoying little file, it would come back, and norton kept blocking it every single time, about 1000 times, because it kept coming back again and again. After it blocked the file about 5000 times, my computer crashed and it wouldnt even boot back up for a while(I would turn it on and the fans would run, but the screen was just static and lines everywhere), so I took out my video card(its back in now), and i disconnected and re-connected the battery, and did a system restore. ANYWAY, my computer is back up, but when it crashed it scared me to death cause I was'nt backed up, needless to say, I am now, but I NEVER want this to happen again....

ANYWAY, back to norton's scan results of this virus... Norton Found it to be a "trojan Downloader", and blocked it several times before finnally crashing my computer, as described above.

I'm sorry that I can't provide more detailed information than what I have given, I hope you guys can help me out, because Im a grown man and I cryed when my pc crashed because I thought I would never see my wedding photos again, because they were'nt backed up. So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me get rid of this little pest. THANK YOU!

News:
My computer has crashed again... I am letting it cool down for a few hours right now, then i will try re-booting again.
If I turn it on, I get lines and static again, so I will try a few things that I tryed before to get it working again, untill then, again, PLEASE HELP!!

Hello spider1987,

We ask that once you have posted your log and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your thread or make further replies until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. The reason we ask this or do not respond to your requests is because that would remove you from the active queue that Techs and Staff have access to. The malware staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response, there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.

That is why I have made an edit to your last post, instead of a reply. Please do not multiple post here, as that only pushes you further down the queue and causes confusion to the staff.

Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible.

Thank you for understanding.

Regards,

The weatherman

Hi

My name is Extremeboy (or EB for short), and I will be helping you with your log.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine. If you have not done so, include a description of your problem, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

If you do not make a reply in 5 days, we will need to close your topic.

You may want to keep the link to this topic in your favourites. Alternatively, you can click the Posted Image button at the top bar of this topic and Track this Topic. The topics you are tracking can be found here.

Please take note of some guidelines for this fix:
  • Refrain from making any changes to your computer including installing/uninstall programs, deleting files, modifying the registry, and running scanners or tools.
  • If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
  • Even if things appear to be better, it might not mean we are finished. Please continue to follow my instructions and reply back until I give you the "all clean". We do not want to clean you part-way, only to have the system re-infect itself.
  • Please reply using the Posted Image button in the lower right hand corner of your screen. Do not start a new topic. The logs that you post should be pasted directly into the reply.
  • Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just post back here so that we know you're still here.

If you still require assistance post a new set of DDS Logs and a description of any remaining problems or symptoms you may still have please.

If for any reason you did not post a DDS log please refer to this page and in step #6 there is instructions on downloading and running DDS. IF you have any problems just let me know in your next reply or simply post a Hijackthis log.

Then, please run RootRepeal:

Download and run RootRepeal CR

Please download RootRepeal to your desktop
Alternative Download Link 2
Alternative Download Link 3
  • Physically disconnect your machine from the internet as your system will be unprotected.
  • Unzip it to it's own folder
  • Close/Disable all other programs especially your security programs (anti-spyware, anti-virus, and firewall) Refer to this page, if you are unsure how.
  • Double-click on RootRepeal.exe to run it. If you are using Vista, please right-click and run as Administrator...
  • Click the Report tab at the bottom.
  • Now click the Scan button in the Report Tab. Posted Image
  • A box will pop up, check the boxes beside ALL Seven options/scan area
    Posted Image
  • Now click OK.
  • Another box will open, check the boxes beside all the drives, eg : C:\, then click OK.
  • The scan will take a little while to run, so let it go unhindered.
  • Once it is done, click the Save Report button. Posted Image
  • Save it as RepealScan and save it to your desktop
  • Reconnect to the internet.
  • Post the contents of that log in your reply please.
For your next reply I would like to see:
-The DDS logs
---DDS.txt and Attach logs
-RootRepeal logs
-Description of any remaining problems you may still have.

Thanks again and we apologize for the delay.

With Regards,
Extremeboy
