Hi folkes, my computer just shuts itself down when it likes and when I least like it to!. Its probably about 8 years old and the only new thing to it is that i purchased a new widescreen moniter for it last week. I installed the software disc for it that came with it. Interestingly last week Malwarebytes flashed up on the screen that it has encountered something but disappeared before I could note anything about it. I ran the program but it found nothing and nothing was in the log. I ran Mcafee and 2 antispyware programs and still nothing. Any clues????

Anything recorded in Event Viewer, coinciding with the times it shuts down? You say it's 8 years old, have you ever cleaned the insides of dust to be sure it's not a 'thermal' shutdown?

Worth reviewing, http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid...ent&phase=1

Me...I would just try uninstalling McAfee software (assuming that it's corrupt) and reinstall it/update it...hoping that solves the problem.

Or use more current software. Software errors in 2005...have probably either been overcome by updates or newer versions of the program.

What version of McAfee?
