I was using the internet, then all of sudden, "Advanced Virus Remover" popped up and said I had many viruses. The desktop background of my computer, turned to a big blue background that said "Your System is Infected"System has beep stopped due to a serious malfunction. Spyware activity has been detected. It is recommended to use spyware removal tool to prevent data loss."

Advanced Virus Remover kept on popping up and scanning, but I knew it was already a fake spyware program so I closed it. Then my computer slowed down, and I tried to open up Task Manager by Ctrl-Alt-Delete, but then it said "Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator." or "Application cannot be executed. The file is infect. lease activate your antivirus program.

I later tried to run Malwarebytes, but after a minute or so of running it, the computer would either restart or freeze. Then I'm unable to move the mouse around.
Soon after, I tried booting it into Safe Mode by pressing F8. But once I clicked on Safe Mode, it would compile a list of something, and it would restart once again. But I don't know why it's doing that either.

I'm not sure what to do anymore, and I'm getting really scared and I'm worrying about it. I already disabled the internet from that computer because I read somewhere I'm supposed to.

Can anyone help me, I'm freaking out right now. And I will try to cooperate as best as I can.

When I try scanning with Malwarebytes, my computer restarts.

Hello SuperVu

To try to run malwarebytes:

let's try Fatdcuk's fix.

Please navigate to the MBAM folder located in the Program Files directory.

Locate MBAM.exe and rename it to winlogon.exe

Once renamed double click on the file to open MBAM and select Quick Scan

At the end of the scan click Remove Selected and then reboot.


Post the scan log. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.

To subscribe, go to your topic, and at the top right hand corner by your first post, click the Options button and then click Track this topic. The bullet the immediate notification bubble. Then press submit.



Please download Dr. Web the free version & save it to your desktop. DO NOT perform a scan yet.

Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Scan with Dr. Web Cureit as follows:
Double-click on launch.exe to open the program and click Start. (There is no need to update if you just downloaded the most current version
Read the Virus check by DrWeb scanner prompt and click Ok where asked to Start scan now? Allow the setup.exe to load if asked by any of your security programs.
The Express scan will automatically begin.
(This is a short scan of files currently running in memory, boot sectors, and targeted folders).
If prompted to dowload the Full version Free Trial, ignore and click the X to close the window.
If an infected object is found, you will be prompted to move anything that cannot be cured. Click Yes to All.
When complete, click Select All, then choose Cure > Move incurable.
(This will move any detected files to the C:\Documents and Settings\userprofile\DoctorWeb\Quarantine folder if they can't be cured)
Now put a check next to Complete scan to scan all local disks and removable media.
In the top menu, click Settings > Change settings, and UNcheck "Heuristic analysis" under the "Scanning" tab, then click Ok.
Back at the main window, click the green arrow "Start Scanning" button on the right under the Dr.Web logo.
When the scan is complete, a message will be displayed at the bottom indicating if any viruses were found.
Click "Yes to all" if asked to cure or move the file(s) and select "Move incurable".
In the top menu, click file and choose save report list.
Save the DrWeb.csv report to your desktop.
Exit Dr.Web Cureit when done.
Important! Reboot your computer because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web in your next reply. (You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report)

I can't seem to download Dr. Web, whenever it starts downloading, the computer restarts.

Ok, you might have a rootkit.

Please install RootRepeal

Go HERE, and download RootRepeal.zip to your Desktop.
Tutorial with images ,if needed >> L@@K
Unzip that to your Desktop and then click RootRepeal.exe to open the scanner.

*Open the folder and double-click on RootRepeal.exe to launch it. If using Vista, right-click and Run as Administrator...
* Click on the FILES tab, then click the Scan button.
* In the Select Drives, dialog Please select drives to scan: select all drives showing, then click OK.
* When the scan has completed, a list of files will be generated in the RootRepeal window.
* Click on the Save Report button and save it as rootrepeal.txt to your desktop or the same location where you ran the tool from.
* Open rootrepeal.txt in Notepad and copy/paste its contents in your next reply.
* Exit RootRepeal and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.

Please note: If Rootrepeal fails to run, try this step: Click Settings - Options. Set the Disk Access slider to High


Note 2: If RootRepeal cannot complete a scan and results in a crash report, try repeating the scan in "Safe Mode".

When I set the Disk Access to High, and close it.
I try to open up Rootrepeal again, and it still doesn't run.

Ok, lets try Sophos (always have to have a backup plan :thumbsup: )

Please download Sophos Anti-rootkit& save it to your desktop.
Note: If using the vendor's download site you will be asked to register with MySophos so an email containing an activation link can be sent to your email address.

Be sure to print out and read the User Manualand Release Notes
Double-click sar_15_sfx.exe to begin the installation, read the license agreement and click Accept.
Allow the default location of C:\Program Files\Sophos\Sophos Anti-Rootkit and click Install.
A message will appear "Sophos Anti-Rootkit was successfully installed. Click 'yes' to start it now". Click Yes.
Make sure the following are checked:
o Running processes
o Windows Registry
o Local Hard Drives

Click Start scan.
Sophos Anti-Rootkit will scan the selected areas and display any suspicious files in the upper panel.
When the scan is complete, a pop-up screen will appear with "Rootkit Scan Results". Click OK to continue.
Click on the suspicious file to display more information about it in the lower panel which also includes whether the item is recommended for removal.
o Files tagged as Removable: No are not marked for removal and cannot be removed.
o Files tagged as Removable: Yes (clean up recommended) are marked for removal by default.
o Files tagged as Removable: Yes (but clean up not recommended) are not marked for removal because Sophos did not recognize them. These files will require further investigation.
Select only items recommended for removal, then click "Clean up checked items". You will be asked to confirm, click Yes.
A pop up window will appear advising the cleanup will finish when you restart your computer. Click Restart Now.
After reboot, a dialog box displays the files you selected for removal and the action taken.
Click Empty list and then click Continue to re-scan your computer a second time to ensure everything was cleaned.
When done, go to Start > Run and type or copy/paste: %temp%\sarscan.log
This should open the log from the rootkit scan. Please post this log in your next reply. If you have a problem, you can find sarscan.log in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp\.
Before performing an ARK scan it is recommended to do the following to ensure more accurate results and avoid common issues that may cause false detections.
Disconnect from the Internet or physically unplug you Internet cable connection.
Clean out your temporary files.
Close all open programs, scheduling/updating tasks and background processes that might activate during the scan including the screensaver.
Temporarily disable your anti-virus and real-time anti-spyware protection.
After starting the scan, do not use the computer until the scan has completed.
When finished, re-enable your anti-virus/anti-malware (or reboot) and then you can reconnect to the Internet.

:thumbsup: The computer keeps on restarting when I scan it with Sophos.
Thank you for your help. Is my computer really that bad, and un-fixable?
Will reformatting my computer fix this problem?

Yes, reformatting would fix the problem, but that may be unessasary. There are several other fixes that may solve the problem, but:

Now that you have posted a log here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/248226/infected/ you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.

Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.

Please be patient. It may take several days, perhaps less, to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible. I advise checking your topic once a day for responses.
