Posted 09 August 2009 - 11:48 AM

I have been having worsening computer problems recently. I have scanned the computer with Spyware Doctor, AVG, Spybot Search and Destroy, Adaware SE, and done a registry scan as well. When I log on the computer I get an error message saying that a CLI application (command line interface) has stopped working. I then have to click on "close program" to exit the error message. My computer has also been getting slower recently. If I leave my laptop on, close the lid, and then return to it, it often freezes or programs that I have open stop responding. As I said, everything has been getting really slow. When I run the Windows Task Manager it says that sometimes my computer is running at 100%, but it doesn't list any programs as taking up a huge amount of space. I don't know what to do!!!!!!!!!

Here is my Hijack this log:

Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

My same initial symptoms have not changed; however, I have gotten several new error messages on computer startup. The first was CLI EXTs Application Error - "Application has generated an exception that could nt be handled" Process ID= 0x1204(4612) Thread ID = 0x1208(4616) Additionally I have got ONENOTEM.EXE - unable to locate component This application has failed to start because MSVRC80.dll was not found. Apart from those two messages I also get an error message on a black screen after I enter my password that says "lsdelete program not found - skipping autocheck". These are the only new symptoms apart from what I mentioned above. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated!

Hello mrinthemix :thumbup2: Welcome to the BC HijackThis Log and Analysis forum. Sorry about your wait, but I will be assisting you in cleaning up your system from here on out.

I ask that you refrain from running tools other than those we suggest while we are performing the clean-up. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process.

In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. By doing this and then choosing Immediate E-Mail notification and then clicking on Proceed you will be advised when we respond the your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.

After 5 days if a topic is not replied to we assume it has been abandoned and it is closed.

I need to get a little different look at your system so please perform the following:

We need to scan for Rootkits with GMER
  • Please download GMER from one of the following locations, and save it to your desktop:
    • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
    • Zip Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Close any and all open programs, as this process may crash your computer.
  • Double click Posted Image or Posted Image on your desktop.
  • Allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • You may see this window. If you do, click No.
    Posted Image
  • Click on Posted Image and wait for the scan to finish.
  • If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • Push Posted Image and save the logfile to your desktop.
  • Copy and Paste the contents of that file in your next post.

Thanks,

You're welcome!

Let's try MalwareBytes:

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link 1
alternate download link 2

MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen:
  • Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.
  • Exit MBAM when done.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

No, that didn't show anything. Although the GMER log didn't show a lot I want to rule out one thing I did see in there so let's do this next:

Please download mbr.exe to your Desktop. Run the tool by doubleclicking on it. It will produce a log which I will need in your next reply.

Try deleting the version you have and downloading it again. This time rename it to something like bmr.exe and see if it will run.

Due to the large amount of backlogs we have I cannot respond to PMs for help unless I am already working with you

I renamed it as bmr.exe on my desktop but it still produced the same log. It only took about two seconds. = (

Try running these. Let's see if it will give me something to work with.

  • Download RootRepeal from the following location and save it to your desktop.
  • Extract the contents of RootRepeal.zip, to your desktop.
  • Double click Posted Image on your desktop.
  • Click on the report tab, then click scan
  • Check all seven boxes:
    Drivers
    Files
    Processes
    SSDT
    Stealth Objects
    Hidden Services
    Shadow SSDT
  • Click Ok
  • Check the box for your main system drive (Usually C:), and press Ok.
  • Allow RootRepeal to run a scan of your system. This may take some time.
  • Once the scan completes, Click the Save Report button. Save the log as RootRepeal.txt and post it in your next reply.

Go HERE and download SysProt AntiRootkit. Unzip it to your Desktop
  • Run SysProt >> Click on the Log tab
  • Tick ALL the boxes at the "Write to log" section. Also tick the "Hidden Objects Only" options
  • Hit the Create Log button
  • When it asked for scanning option, choose Scanning all drives >> Hit Start button (Do NOT hit "Ok" button)
  • Let it scan until finish
  • Find the log.txt inside the SysProt folder and attach the log here.

The website for RootRepeal says "The bandwidth or page view limit for this site has been exceeded and the page cannot be viewed at this time. Once the site is below the limit, it will once again begin serving as normal." I will try the other one first until I can access the first site.

Well my computer completely freaked out! I finished and saved the scan from the second program but when I started the first one it said windows explored has stopped working and that it was now restarting over and over. I am typing this from my phone because the second I turn my computer on it gives the same error message and then refreshes over and over again!!! What should I do??
