Posted 08 August 2009 - 01:04 PM

a little background info: Virus started by preventing me from opening browsers, it also prevented malwarebytes from starting, i tried the rename trick and then it started, but about 10 seconds into the scan it was crashed by the virus, when i try to run it again i get this error:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item"

mind you im in safe mode as an admin.

The same process repeated itself while trying to run hijackthis, and combofix and root repeal and now i cant run any of of them. The only program that was able to provide a scan without being crashed was DDS.scr and ive posted my log as follows, i also attached attach.exe

Also just by glancing at task manager processes, i can say that msa.exe AND b.exe dont belong, though im not sure if thats whats causing THIS problem.

Thanks alot in advance, if i hadnt found this forum i would probably put a hammer claw through my laptop.

Hello! :thumbup2:
My name is Sam and I will be helping you.

In order to see what's going on with your computer I will ask for you to post various logs from the tools that we will use to resolve your issue. Please also share with me any information about how your computer is reacting and behaving each step of the way as we work through this process.

Download Combofix from any of the links below. You must rename it before saving it. Save it to your desktop.

Double click on Combo-Fix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt so we can continue cleaning the system.

Failing to respond back to the person that is giving up their own time to help you not only is insensitive and disrespectful, but it guarantees that you will never receive help from me again. Please thank your helpers and there will always be help here when you need it!

I followed instructions to the T, but it didnt work. Combo fix starts to load but then it dissapears.

i tried again with task manager open, and noticed right after it opens, many instances N.pif and/or Hideexec.exe pop up until combofix is forcefully shutdown.

same thing in safe mode
i also tried using other renames, such as random jibberish etc.

anything else i could try?

We need to create an OTL Report
  • Please download OTL from here
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon on your desktop.
  • Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
  • Push the "Run Scan" button.
  • The scan should take just a few minutes.
  • Copy the log that opens up and paste it back here in your next reply.
