Dear all,

yesterday the following message was sent through my hotmail account (obviously unknown to me until friends contacted me to inform me) to all my contacts in hotmail

"
Heya, how are you doing recently ? I would like to introduce you a very good company which i knew.Their website is www.sumwes.com .They can offer you all kinds of electronical products which you need like laptops ,gps ,TV LCD,cell phones,ps3,MP3/4,motorcycles etc........Please take some time to have a check ,there must be somethings you 'd like to purchase .
Their contact email: sumwes@sumwes.com. MSN:sumwes@hotmail.com
Hope you have a good mood in shopping from their company !
Regards

"

I have since then taken the following actions:
full Norton Anti virus scan (which has been installed on my computer before the problem occured btw): no hits
installed and ran a full scan with malwarebytes: no hits
installed and ran a full scan with spybot; no hits
ran a MSNfix scan: no hits
installed and ran a scan with trojanremover: no hits

I have also checked my msn account option and did not notice anything untowards;
i checked the sent message box and all messages sent were indeed in there
no electronic signature added
no automatic replied added
i have unchecked the remember me option on the msn loggin box (which I had checked myself sometime ago)
Finally i would like to report that the Phishing protection option of my norton anti virus regularly "switch off" but this has been ongoing for quite some time...

this is the first time this ever happened to me. I dont surf many different websites and usually stick to the one I know. the only one that I sometimes visit which I dont trust 100% is www.xunlei.com
Also on the day the problem occured (friday 07 aug 09), i had ran a macro connecting to yahoo to retrieve some stocks data...no idea if that could be related.

I copied the DDS.text log below and attached the Attach.txt log file

many thanks for your help in advance

thewsi

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.
