when i run my mouse cursor over my desktop icons I hear a crackling sound

I replaced my ATI video card with a NVIDEA card. When I drag my mouse cursor over my desktop icons, I get a crackling sound. I have Windows Vista. If i run my cursor really fast over the desktop icons, my sound shuts off for about 10 seconds. Any advice folks?
