Posted 13 July 2005 - 10:16 PM

I have followed many of the suggestions posted here for individual entries that i have had trouble removing and have successfully freed my pc of many of these problems but i am still having trouble with a few of these. Mainly i have one that shows up in autoruns under scheduled tasks that shows up as RUtasks.job and is listed image path as c:\windows\ru.exe. I can't get this one to go away at all. Any help with this would be much appreciated and any other tips from my hijack log as well.

Hello Kyndig,

You have a nail.exe infection on your computer. We have had good success with the following fix. :thumbsup:

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

With Internet Explorer, please download Nailfix from here:
http://www.noidea.us/easyfile/file.php?dow...050515010747824
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Note: do not use FireFox to download Nailfix.

**********************************

We need to disable, stop and delete a service.

Click Start > Run and type in Services.msc
Click OK
In the Sevices box, click the Extended tab.

Scroll down to:
System Startup Service
Click Stop, then Disable
Reboot your computer.

**********************************

Open HijackThis. Click on 'Open the miscellaneous tools section'
Click on 'Delete an NT Service'
Paste in this;
SvcProc
and click 'OK'
Reboot your computer.

**********************************

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan.

Save the logfile from the scan.

**********************************

Go to HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click “Kill process” for each.
C:\WINDOWS\ALCXMNTR.EXE
c:\windows\system32\dqcdxt.exe

Next please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O2 - BHO: (no name) - AutorunsDisabled - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {601F98C2-5271-3E9C-5543-5E00B6CE8F98} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddbvtggi.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ubjdbo] c:\windows\system32\dqcdxt.exe r
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - AutorunsDisabled - (no file)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: App Paths - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ews.dll
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

**********************************

Go to My Computer and double-click C.
Go to the Tools menu and select 'Folder Options'.
On the 'View' tab select 'show hidden files and folders' and deselect (uncheck) 'hide protected operating system files (recommended)'.

Find and delete each of the following. If you can't delete an item, right-click it and click properties. Make sure 'read-only' is unchecked.
If you still can't delete something, right-click it and rename it to a random word. Then drag the item to a different location. Try deleting it now. If you still can't, be sure to let me know.

Delete the following files/folders in bold (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddbvtggi.dll <==file
c:\windows\system32\dqcdxt.exe <==file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ews.dll <==file
c:\windows\system32\dqcdxt.exe <==file
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe <==file
C:\WINDOWS\ALCXMNTR.EXE <==file

**********************************

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the Ewido scan log.

Hello Kyndig,

Your log looks much better, but we still have some cleanup to do. :thumbsup:

Did you post the Ewido log from the first time you ran it? Or is Ewido log from the second time your ran it? It should have listed many virues and trojans that it removed. I wanted to see what it removed.

*******************************************

How to Reboot into Safe Mode
tap F8 key during reboot, until the boot menu appears...use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode" from the menu......,then press the "Enter" key.

Please boot into Safe Mode and select the following with HijackThis.
With all windows (including this one!) closed (close browser/explorer windows), please select "fix.”
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {B56A7D7D-6927-48C8-A975-17DF180C71AC} - (no file)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: Controls Folder - C:\WINDOWS\system32\wkvdmod.dll

*******************************************

Next, we're going on a file hunt.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wkvdmod.dll <==file

*******************************************

Let's empty the temp files:

Download CCleaner and install it. (default location is best).
Select the Windows Tab, Run CCleaner ,(click Run Cleaner (bottom right) then, when it finishes scanning click Exit.)
When you see "Complete" on the top line, it's done. It's very fast.

I recommend that you DO NOT run anything under the Issues Tab and the Applications Tab. To prevent accidently running the Issues Tab and Applicatons tabs, clear all check boxes are under them.

*******************************************

Finally, reboot and post a new Hijackthis log, and tell me how your computer is running.
If I've saved you time & money,
please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you! You can donate using a credit card and PayPal. Thank you!

Delete the following files/folders in bold (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wkvdmod.dll <==file

was unable to complete this step, wouldn't let me move or delete or rename while file was in use by another program

Killbox tutorial:
http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=320

Download KillBox to the desktop.

Run Killbox program , in the field labeled "Full Path of File to Delete" enter
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wkvdmod.dll

select the "Delete on Reboot" and click on the Red X(delete file) ,when it asks if you would like to Reboot now, press the Yes button

If you get a "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" message then just restart manually.

Ppost a new Hijackthis log, and tell me how your computer is running.

Hello Kyndig,

Please make sure that Word Wrap is turned OFF in Notepad before you copy and paste the HijackThis log here.
Take a look at the log you just posted. It's an eye killer :thumbsup:

**************************************

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.
Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.

Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter.

This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log.

Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!
