I know that for an Intel CPU the mobo FSB has to be eqivelant or faster then the CPUs FSB but,
what about AMD CPUs, I mean does the mobos MT/s have to equivelant or faster than the MT/s of the FSB of the CPU????

Im confused :thumbsup:

No it doesn't. If the CPU is compatible with the socket/motherboard, it will just slow down its own Hypertransport speeds to that of what the socket/motherboard define.

So, if you were to put a socket AM3 CPU into an AM2+ motherboard, with a rated HT speed of 2600MT/sec, and the CPU itself was rated for 5200MT/sec, it will slow the HT speed down to that of 2600MT/sec.

A motherboard only is compatible with so many processors and these are normally indicated in the motherboard specs.

well, sometimes you can push this. My motherboard, is a socket AM2 motherboard, with supposedly supports all CPUs up to the AMD x2 6400+. However, with a bios update it will work with AM2+ CPUs. AM3 may be pushing it, but I can put a AM2+ quad core into my motherboard and it will "work" just not as well as the CPU would work in a AM2+ socket. an AM3 may work as well, questionable on that, if it does it would be so limited there would be no point. but in reality an AM2 and AM2+ and AM3 all use the same pin configurations, and am2 and AM2+ are fully interchangeble, and AM3 has some features that make it incompatible with older CPUs, but as long as the socket type is the basic same then the CPU will work, I think it may be the same with intel as well, not sure on that though since I dont do intel builds often. however, a socket AM2 CPU will not go in a socket 939 or vice versa, for example-different pin configurations. :D
