I am attempting to run a dual monitor set-up.

OS -- Vista SP2.
Monitor #1 -- Sceptre x20WG - NAGAII (widescreen)
Monitor #2 -- Sceptre x20WG - 1080p (widescreen)
Graphics Card -- XFX Radeon 4850 1GB DDR3 w/Dual DVI
Graphics Driver and software -- latest and greatest from ATI dated 7/22/09
Cable Connections -- VGA cables w/DVI adapters only at graphics card end

Manufacturer recommended resolution for both monitors is 1680x1050, and that is my goal.

Using Vista's "Display Properties," Vista identifies monitor #1 correctly as PnP and lets me readily set the resolution to 1680x1050.

However, Vista misidentifies monitor #2 incorrectly as a generic non-PnP, and therefore the only resolutions it offers me are for standard screen and not widescreen.

How can I set the resolution for monitor #2 to the manufacturer recommended 1680x1050?

Thanks in advance.

It was a bad cable or a bad adapter, I don't know which, I don't care.

I replaced both with true DVI-D and everything works fine.
