When i am using either facebook or hotmail, my mozilla freezes up, and eventually just stops working. If i close the mozilla windows and attempt to open a new one, it says that mozilla has encountered a problem, and i either have to close the current windows open (when there aren't any) or reboot my system.

Edit: Moved topic from XP to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Hello,

Please be patient, as BC staff are normally busy, and you will normally not get a quick response.

This happens to me all the time. And when it does say Mozilla is still running, it's because Firefox will only use one profile at a time. It does this by putting a lock file in your profile folder when it starts. When you exit Firefox, the lock file is removed. If the lock file already exists when you start Firefox, or in a few other cases where the profile cannot be opened, Firefox displays an error message: "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."

1) Empty the Cache
Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cache

Also delete all History.

You can also try forcing the page to reload from the Web by holding down <Shift> and clicking the reload button. This is not a fix, however.

If that does not work, you'll probably have to create a new profile.

Try the workarounds suggest on the Mozilla KB page here.

Hi,

you can try the following 2 things, to determine where the problem comes from:

First please try the following:
Navigate to the folder in which Firefox has been installed. (Usually that is C:\program files\mozilla firefox\ and double-click the shortcut named Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)

Firefox will start and a window will pop-up. Press continue in Safe Mode to start Firefox without any addons. Browse to hotmail or facebook and see if the problem persists.

If it does persist, please close Firefox again (and kill the running process)

Next please try this:
Go to Start->All Programs->Mozilla Firefox and select the profile manager.

A window will open, select create a new profile. Name it as you wish (test will be fine) and start that profile by selecting and clicking Start Firefox.

Firefox will start, please browse hotmail and facebook and tell me if the problem persists.

(Firefox will automatically use that profile at next start up. If you want to use your old profile again, you can simply start the profile manager and select your profile and click start firefox, which will make your old profile the default again)

Please tell me if any of these steps reduces your problems.

I can't figure out how to make a new profile, and the other solutions didn't work.
