I'd like to try this please :

I'd like for you to uninstall Norton, and install Avira AntiVirus. The reason for this is because there is a good amount of information on these files on their pages, and I think it has a better chance of seeing and deleting them. We already know that while Norton does see them, it does nothing with them. We don't have many option with this being 64 bit.

The Norton uninstall tool uninstalls ALL Norton 2004/2005/2006/2007/2008/2009 products from your computer. It also uninstalls Norton Ghost 10.0/9.0/2003. http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...005033108162039

Avira can be found here : Avira

Let me know how you come out. :thumbup2:

Well its Symantec EndPoint Protection, not a Norton product specifically (Yes I know its the same company, I just want to make sure). I'm sorry if that makes a difference or not, and I'm sorry if I forgot to tell you earlier.

Alright all I need to do is ask the owner of the PC if that's ok (I'm only called to fix things around here). Also I trust your guidance but I must ask due to my somewhat clueless nature, Avira will do a better job at protecting the computer then Symantec has been I assume? Anyway, thank you for your time so far, you've been a great help, hopefully if I can get this everything will run smooth.

Perhaps in this case it will do a better job. :thumbup2: If the owner insists, then of course abide by his/her wishes and reinstall Symantec IF we can get this rootkit out. You should know there is a pretty good chance that we will be unsuccessful, and I feel the owner should know this as well. I do wish you would have said this isn't your computer to begin with.

Sorry, its more of the family computer to be honest. So by definition it really isn't mine, however, since everyone else in the family knows less then I do it falls to me to fix it when something happens. Its just that my father (the owner) doesn't like me doing anything along the lines of uninstalling things like the virus software. I don't really have much control over it aside from that. Sorry once again I didn't mean to withhold anything, I just didn't think it to be important at the time.

Still I feel I should of been more clear about the whole subject manner, I feel terribly sorry about it.
Alright, I'm a bit further along. I uninstalled Symantec via the change or remove program menu, and when I booted back up Window's Defender popped up asking for updates. I installed avira, and I'm updating right now. Should I update Window's Defender, and I also turned Window's Firewall back on for the moment as well. So should I update defender or just go with the scan. Thank you so far friend, I'm still sorry about the mix up. :thumbup2:

I hate to double post, however, I must tell you that I went away from the computer for a moment, and it seems window's defender automatically updated and is now scanning my computer. I'm not sure what to make of it, I just thought I would like to keep you updated.

Slash that, the power cut out for some odd reason. (its as clear as you can get over here?)

Anyway, I moved on, and started the Avira scan I'll post the results if any. Thank you again :thumbup2:

Hello,

Just in case you need a bit of backup with your father, have a look here to see about how Symantec has failed to meet requirements securing Vista : http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/08/06/vi...ti_virus_tests/

Post when you're ready. :thumbup2:

Thank you, this shall be of some use to me soon.

Anyway I ran the scan, and it found only one item, and two suspicious files. I'll post the report here.

I was watching it closely and I didn't see anything about the 9129837.exe or anything.
So, unless you see something I don't I'm confused.

Oops I see I need admin rights now, I'll rerun the scan real fast with them on and see if anything new pops up.
(I so miss my XP system....*Sigh*)

Wow, difference already, two warnings? I'll have to see what up now, hopefully this scan will only take a little bit.

Alright, thank you for the article, however my dad is still believing in Endpoint protection, even though the RAP showed Avira to be higher. He thinks since his company gave him the "corporate" edition that its better. Well he's letting me keep Avira on for now, however, I still think I need a firewall since the free version doesn't come with one. Anyway, that doesn't matter at the moment. Here's the second scan log with admin scanning.

Hi Please help us,

Teacup61 is not available right now. I will be helping you with the continued support. Have your issues been sorted? If you need further assistance, please detail the problem you're experiencing now. Thanks.

Step1
  • Download OTS to your Desktop
  • Close ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.
  • Double-click on OTS.exe to start the program.
  • Check the box that says Scan All Users
  • Check the box that says 64 bit
  • Under Additional Scans check the following:

    File - Lop Check
    File - Purity Scan
    Evnt - EvtViewer (last 10)

  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  • Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.

In your next reply, please post back OTS log. :thumbup2:
