No notification popups_messages in system tray

After a virus was removed from the computer, no notification popup messages appear. If an usbkey is inserted, no message, if you safely remove hardware, no message. Updates for your computer, no message. How can I restore this feature? Is there a dll or registry problem? Please advise. Thanks very much.
