Okay, so my computer is not working properly. I called Dell and my ISP. I've not been able to at least get my icons and task bar to come up; however, I cannot get onto the internet or my e-mail. I know that it is working because I have a router hooked up and I was able to get on the other computer. However, I've run some programs on that computer and found numerous infected files that I'm assuming came from my daughter downloading a toolbar. The problem is I've only been able to download one program (HiJackthis) to a diskette to try on my computer. Here is what I found out. Any help would greatly be appreciated:

First thing I would do is create a directory on your c:\ drive called c:\hjt and copy the hijackthis.exe from the floppy drive to that drive. Then run it in the future from the c:\hjt directory.

Now lets get going towards fixing your problem. THis will require you to download some programs , so keep that floppy ready to transfer programs from a computer with working Internet to the one that does not.

Now please Download LSPFix from http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm and store it in a location you can find later in case of problems.

To remove New.net. please go to Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs, look for and remove New.Net. If you can't find it, then please go here and follow the removal instructions in Procedure 4 at the bottom of the page.

Then, I want you to fix some of those entries. Please do the following:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then click the Fix button

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Then delete these files or directories (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)

C:\Program Files\NewDotNet\

C:\Program Files\Date Manager\
C:\Program Files\Common Files\GMT\
C:\Program Files\PrecisionTime\

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode and post a new log

If you have trouble reaching the internet, run the lsp-fix program I had you download earlier and when it starts click on the finish button and then reboot and post a new log
