Hey everyone...

I am completely new to this site and happened upon it via my search for a solution...
I trust the guru's here will be able to help me, though...

Yesterday, I've installed an application to manage, through a database, my movie collection. It required some steps to follow, which I did.

Thereafter, Nero didn't recognise the Sony CD/DVD drive at all as a burning destination, although it is visible and accessible through Windows.

Steps taken:
- I've uninstalled Nero and have reinstalled - unsuccessful
- I've uninstalled Nero and have installed Ashampoo Burning Studio

Ashampoo Burning Studio's first message said something about the drive having some sort of SECRET-message, which prevents it from being used, due to a rootkit virus or malware (or something - but definitely to do with a rootkit problem...) and it suggested I clean it..

So, I downloaded various rootkit applications and ran my anti-virus in Deep Clean...
NOTHING was found...

Also, all of a sudden there is this mysterious new SCSI "drive", with a very weird number (when one view the drives in device manager - "UJSRWL MFG1U7GXEJ8H SCSI CdRom Device")

The Objective:
I just want my PC to write to DVD/CD's again...
... without having to format or reinstall Windows, if possible, please...

Please help me...

Thanx ;-)

EDIT: I am new to this site, so if this is the incorrect topic area, or whatever that might offend anyone, will the mods please move or edit this..??
Thank you..

Mod Edit: Topic moved from Introductions to more appropriate forum~ TMacK
