Please help !

My Browser opens to about:blank
then loads http://oneclicksearches.com

I have tried to change my default web page, but IE never keeps my default,
I'll close out the options box for IE and when re-opening it , the default lists "About:blank".

I also have the little yellow triangle in the bottom right corner (notification area) which is tied to regfreez.net
antivirus gold, you name it, different ones pop up, when you click on it..

I have downloaded Hijackthis.exe and have just ran it.

Thanks in advance. Ang

Welcome to the forum.

You also need to disable the real-time protection. Simply right click on the icon that looks like this Posted Image and click on Security Agents Status (Enabled) and click on Disable Real-time Protection. To re enable it, you follow the same steps but click on Enable Real-time Protection.

Download smitRem.zip and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/search.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/bar.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/search.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/search.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/search.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/search.php?qq=%1
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/
O2 - BHO: VMHomepage Class - {FFFFFFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFFFFFFFFFA} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp5C2F.tmp

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
These should be deleted unless you are using Spybot option 'Lock homepage from changes'

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
  • When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.
Let us know if any problems persist.

Oh Sigh !.. did exactly as described above.
Still comes up with the about:blank,, but, it does not load the search page. it just has about:blank in the url, and the page is, well, Blank !. I put www.bleepingcomputer.com in the URL and get another search page called bleepingcomputer, but it is not your home page. I had to go to google and search on bleeping computer to get here.

Here are the requested logs, HJT, Panda Soft, Edwido.

Please read these instructions carefully and print them out! Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

Please RIGHT-CLICK: HERE and go to Save As (in Internet Explorer it's "Save Target As") in order to download Grinler's reg file. Save it to your desktop.

Locate "smitfraud.reg" on your desktop and double-click it. When asked if you want to merge with the registry, click YES. Wait for the "merged successfully" prompt then follow the rest of the instructions below.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove the following programs, if found:

Security IGuard
Virtual Maid
Search Maid
PSGuard
AdwareDelete

Exit Add/Remove Programs.

*IMPORTANT*CLICK THIS LINK TO LEARN HOW TO VIEW HIDDEN FILES

* Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

Unless you have the Spybot S&D option 'Lock homepage from changes' active, or your system administrator put this into place, have HijackThis fix the 06 entries.

Close HiJackThis.

You have a program called "Big Brother" on your computer, which is a monitoring program. If this is a program you installed or if this is on a business computer, we will leave it alone. Otherwise, we need to address it.

Reboot into normal mode.

1.) Download The Hoster Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program.

2.) Right-Click HERE and Save As to download DelDomains.inf to your desktop.
To use: RIGHT-CLICK DelDomains.inf on your desktop and select: Install (no need to restart)
Note: This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone" and "Ranges" also.

3.) Download and install CleanUp!
Set the program up as follows:
Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

4.) Run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

Post a new HiJackThis log along with the results from ActiveScan into this topic.

Thanks, will do this Monday. Just FYI, after my last comment above, I re-installed MS Anti-spyware, and it gave me the blue pop up, where I could block the changing of my home page to About:blank, and so far it has worked. I will most likely perform the above tasks to see if I can rid it completely..

I can't tell you how much I appreciate the help I have received.
Expect a little donation from me this week.
Thanks again!

Microsoft anti-spyware will have to be disabled when you are doing the fixes and you can re-enable it when everything is clean.
