Nevermind, I found an extra SATA cable so I was able to reinstall everything, clean install. It would be nice if someone here can still let me know what could have been done, or if a full reinstall was the best option. Thanks.

So, I was being a bit careless, and ended up with this infection. It's one where your computer boots up, and this random 'software' loads and says I need to protect my computer with this, blah blah. The infection occurred before I was able to install any antivirus software (running NOD32 on it right now). When I tried to remove it (Spybot, Malwarebytes, Super antispyware (?)), the system would reboot whenever it got to a certain point of scanning. It (spyware) would also delete/manipulate/disable regedit/taskmngr/etc and would not let me run the antispyware software until I renamed it, and blocked Internet access. Anyway, it looks like a pretty bad infection, so I'll be doing a full reformat soon, but I forgot to bring a SATA cable with me, so I can't connect a DVD drive to reinstall (XP). Most of the infection seems to have been cleared, but there are remnants sitting around. Every time on bootup, or randomly, NOD32 will says the ndis.sys file is infected with Win32/Protector.B virus, and I will also have random viruses infecting the Windows\temp directory, usually Win32/Peerfrag.BL worm. I've tried to run some more antispyware software, but the computer ends up rebooting itself midway every single time. Below is the DSS log, and also the attachment. If it's pretty difficult to remove this, then I'll just wait until reformat time. But in the meantime, I'm wary of using it for anything where I need to type in a username/password. I use the machine to play games, but I can't log into Steam because of the above...

Some additional info; I ran across another topic about ndis.sys infection on this site, a helper asked the OP to run virscan on a few files, which I recently did the same:
1. winlogon.exe - returned W32/Swizzor-based.2!Maximus (Heuristic)
2. lsass.exe - clear
3. userinit.exe - returned Worm.Ixbot_F
4. explorer.exe - clear

I tried to run ndis.sys, but the file wouldn't load, for some reason.

Thanks,
- Eli

Nevermind, I found an extra SATA cable so I was able to reinstall everything, clean install. It would be nice if someone here can still let me know what could have been done, or if a full reinstall was the best option. Thanks.
