My sister is going away to uni in september to train to be a nurse, and will thus need a laptop. I've narrowed it down to two laptops, both from Currys reconditioned (my laptop is from there and it works a treat, plus you save loads!(plus you still get a 1 year warranty)). The two are an 'ADVENT 5401' and a 'ACER 5735Z-343'. They both have 3GB RAM and a 250GB hard drive, but main difference is processors, the advent having an
# Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5550
# (1.83 GHz, 667 MHz FSB, 2 MB Cache)
and the acer having an
# Intel Pentium Dual Core T3400
# (2.2GHz, 667MHz FSB, 1MB Cache).

I can see that one has more GHz which in theory is a good thing, but how much difference will that extra 1mb Cache make?

If you want to see the laptops take a look:

PS-I plan on disabling Aero if we get Vista Home Premium to speed things up, so...

Core 2 Duo is the way to go. Better than Pentium Dual Core.

Pentium Dual Core is 65nm and Core 2 Duo is 45nm... for laptops this is a good thing mostly because it means less power, more efficient, less heat, therefore better battery (unless one has an 8 cell and the t5500 has a 6 cell or something).

I say go for the Advent. T5500 would be better.
