In my Pavilion a1555a Device Manager, under Other Devices I have an Unknown Device. I have no idea whether it is Internal or External, but its location is on ATI I/O Communication Processor LPC Controller.
Drivers are not installed (Code 28) and none are found with Update Driver.
Parent Details are: PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4377&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_80\3&267a616a&0&A3
and Google gives me very little.

Any idea what this may be? Doesn't appear to affect anything drastically, but am curious as I don't like unresolved stuff on my machine.

It may be your SMbus controller...contrary to the way it's explained here, it's not just an Intel thing: http://www.pcuser.com.au/pcuser/hs2.nsf/lo...A256CAA0049888A

I have an ATI onboard video chipset...my Device Manager reflects the SMbus item under System Devices. It's the only ATI hardware entry I reflect, in addition to that under Display.

Chipset drivers should have installed it.

Your vendor code is ATI.

Hmmm
SMBus Controller is in System Devices and is up to date.

Went back to Unknown Device and it found an update and tried but failed to install it.

Automatic Updates also tried and failed to install this Away Mode this afternoon (in Windows7) so I don't know what is going on.

Well, managed to crack it.
Another automatic update failed to install the "Away Mode" update with the error msg 70020020 (I think). Followed the tips and turned off protection and had another go. Still stalled at this update, so used the START/'Install updates and turn off computer' button and that did it. Went to Device Manager and updated the Unknown Device. Still not sure what it is, but now have an Away Mode showing and no disagreeable icons so am happy again, LOL.
