I am trying to install XP on the HP Pavilion DV5 laptop I just bought.

I got to the point described here on this website where
I was booting from my XP disc and it was loading all the drivers and suddenly it goes to the blue screen of death with the
error message STOP: 0X0000007B (followed by some other numbers) and it recommends restarting the computer and doing a RUN CHKDSK /F

I tried it twice and have gotten the same error message.

What should I do?

This is the best guide for multibooting, in this case XP with Vista installed first.

Both XP and Vista are jealous about ownership of the C: drive, which is why you usually need to do some surgery with the bootloader files.

EasyBCD is your friend, here.
