Hello.
Yesterday I went to a website and accidently downloaded a media player which contained a trojan. My pc started freezing so i rebooted it. After i rebooted it it my IE didnt work and it froze again.
I rebooted it once more and used firefox and it worked but was very slow. I keep getting ads that i normally wouldnt about bleep enlargemtn and stuff. It the same ad for every site.
I chekced my NOD32 and it said, 'possibly variant of Win32/Statik Application'
Another website wouldnt let me enter because it said that i contained a, Troj/Rustok-N.

I looked at some other people who had the same problems as i do and i tried the same programs that ppl recommended, but this virus or maleware thing wont let me update malwarebyted or spyware doctor. it wont let me download spybot s&d.

i dl'd malware byted but the program itself doesnt open. spyware doctor doesnt update.

I decided to system restore to the previous day when it was wokring beuatifully. I get to the last step where i confirm my restore date and when i click next, nothing happens.. i can click it 100 times and nothing happens.
I also tried these steps in Safe mode as well, no difference.
i also tried to chk c:/r but when i reboot that screen comes up for a second that it goes away, it doesnt actualy check the disk.

I need help to remove whatever this thing is. I also really dont want to reformat, that is my last option after I have tried EVERYTHING.

I desperatly need your guys help...Please and Thank You!!!

Try running a scan with NOD in Safe Mode and post the log.

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link 1
alternate download link 2

MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen:
  • Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.
  • Exit MBAM when done.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Rename this file:

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe

to this:

winlogon.exe

Then double-click the renamed file and see if Malwarebytes will run.

Please download RootRepeal Rootkit Detector and save it to your Desktop.

* Close all programs and temporarily disable your anti-virus, Firewall and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan.
* Click this link to see a list of such programs and how to disable them.
* Create a new folder on your hard drive called RootRepeal (C:\RootRepeal) and extract (unzip) RootRepeal.zip. (click here if you're not sure how to do this. Vista users refer to this link.)
* Open the folder and double-click on RootRepeal.exe to launch it. If using Vista, right-click and Run as Administrator...
* Click on the Files tab, then click the Scan button.
* In the Select Drives, dialog Please select drives to scan: select all drives showing, then click OK.
* When the scan has completed, a list of files will be generated in the RootRepeal window.
* Click on the Save Report button and save it as rootrepeal.txt to your desktop or the same location where you ran the tool from.
* Open rootrepeal.txt in Notepad and copy/paste its contents in your next reply.
* Exit RootRepeal and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.

Note: If RootRepeal cannot complete a scan and results in a crash report, try repeating the scan in "Safe Mode".

Rerun Rootrepeal. After the scan completes, go to the files tab and find this file:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\MSIVXlaunnyvxeecaruntltcpvhehpitnhono.sys

Then use your mouse to highlight it in the Rootrepeal window.
Next right mouse click on it and select *wipe file* option only.
Then immediately reboot the computer.

Then run a quick-scan with Malwarebytes.

Those dirty ads are now gone and i can finally chkdsk. it seems like evrything is going back to normal
Would it be smart to do a system resotre to the date previous to the attack or another safe system restore date?

There is no need to do a System Restore.

Please reboot, run another Malwarebytes quick scan and post the new log.
